Thursday’s Tidbits – Rainbow Effect Tutorial
Hello! Crystal here, and it’s been raining A LOT where I live, so I thought I might cheer everything up with showing you a really simple way to create a rainbow effect on your photos. This is fun to do for lots of different types of photos – so just let yourself go and give it a try! I’d love to see any layouts you do with this fun technique.
This tutorial is for Photoshop – the program I’m most familiar with. If you have any questions, please ask me in the comments and I’ll try to help you out.
First, open your photo up in Photoshop. Go to “Hue/Saturation. Mine is on my right had side, but if your version is different, you can find it by going to the tool bar on top and opening, “Image>Adjustments>Hue Saturation.
Edit your “Master” setting by putting the top slider bar at 0, the second one at -70, and the third one at 0 also.
Next, create a new layer and set it to “Soft Light” under the Blend Mode. Choose a 48 px hard brush and paint the new layer as shown. You can choose whatever colors you like.
When you’re finished painting, go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set it for 90 pixels (You can adjust this until you’re happy with the results.
Have lots of fun with this! Here are a few more samples I’ve made to show you how easy and versatile this trick can be.
Wacky Wednesday Challenge!
Hello Hello! Its Wednesday! You know what that means. Today I have a weekly challenge for you. Its a combination or a “speed scrap” and a recipe challenge.
I used Sugarmoon’s kit Jelly Bean Buddies for my layout and the directions.

Monday Meals – Chicken Gyros
Hi everyone! Crystal here with a great recipe to share with you. My daughter and I were looking for something different and healthy to eat and found this Chicken Gyro recipe. It’s really delicious, and very easy to make. It’s perfect for lunch or would make a great summer supper because it’s so light, but it really fills you up! I’ve make a couple of recipe cards for you to download so you can try this recipe for yourself!
I made the cards using Scrapping Artistry’s “Flowers and Showers” kit – it’s available at With Love Studio or MyMemories!

Recipe Challenge To Inspire!
Hi Shanna here with a little challenge for you to help inspire your creativity. If you are anything like me when you are lacking inspiration you go look at galleries to help inspire you. Sometimes that doesn’t even work. Another great way to get inspired again is to look for challenges to help motivate your creative juices. That is exactly what I hope to do today is motivate and inspire you through a Recipe Challenge. This is the best kind of recipe to because it doesn’t require you to even cook…LOL! So below I’ve listed the recipe of everything you need to have in your layout, but you are able to mix it up however you’d like and even add more to make it your own. Let this inspire you and remember substitutions are sometimes better than what the original recipe calls for.
- 2 patterned papers – use one with a busy pattern and one with a more subdued pattern that looks ok to journal on
- 1 frame – use one that comes with the kit you are using or make your own
- 2 Greenery Elements – make one bigger than the other
- 6 flowers or other elements – you can repeat and use the same ones over and over just play with the sizes
- 2 tags
- 1 quote that fits your theme of your layout – remember quotes help inspire your layouts
And here is my completed layout using Sugar Moon’s “Traditions” mini kit she had on her Facebook page as a freebie a few months back. The font used is “Journal”.
I hope this helps to inspire you to create more layouts and remember you can always use the recipe over and over again and just mix it up to make each layout different.
