Monday’s Meal: How to get more for your money!
Happy Monday! This is Cammi again! I’m a mother to 4 kids, and 1 dog. Needless to say, I look for every opportunity to save money. Until a few months ago, I was resigned to the fact I’d be spending hundreds a month on groceries. Then I began seeing a couple of friends posting about good grocery deals they were getting. I decided to look into it a little more and take a coupon class.
The class I took was awesome! The girls teaching the class educated us on the coupon policies of the local grocery stores and supermarkets. It was great and I put my plan into action. A common suggestion is to buy one Sunday paper that contains coupons per member in your family. Still unsure about this I decided to just start with three papers a week. It wasn’t long before I realized it really did make sense to buy more. Now I buy six!
I really love the area I live in. We have Lowe’s Foods and Harris Teeter grocery stores, both of which double coupons up to a $0.99 face value. So if I had a $0.99 coupon, they will double it to $1.98 unless the coupon states not to double. Currently this week Harris Teeter is doing triple coupons. If you have a $0 .99 coupon they will triple it to $2.97! I really love triple coupon week! This is a week when I can really stock pile some items for free or super cheap.
This week I’ve made four trips to Harris Teeter. My cost before all savings and coupons totaled was $419. After my savings and coupons I only paid $45.00! This included two gallons of milk, 10lbs of chicken breasts, shampoos, toothpaste, yogurt, waffles, yeast rolls, diaper wipes and so much more!! It’s hard to describe the rush in saving so much money.
Here are a few of my favorite sites to go to. They really take all the legwork out of figuring out what to do and where to go to save the most money!
Moola Saving Mom (This is my favorite site. She’s local to my area, and only concentrates on the stores in our area of NC. And she is very thorough!)
I do a lot of coupon printing online too. I’ve received tons of great coupons, and have been able to get my kids cereals for $0.15/box due to sales and coupons. Here are the places you can print coupons online:
There are so many useful resources out in cyberspace that can help you save money. But it totally is worth it if you can spare 2 hours a week to work on couponing!
